Principal's Message

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome back to the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Christina San Nicolas, and I am truly honored to be your new principal. I am excited about meeting each and every one of you and building positive relationships with the Big Bear Elementary Community as we journey together to 21st Century learning.

The staff and I hope that you have had a wonderful Summer Break. We look forward to seeing all of our returning families and students, and welcoming those who are new to Big Bear Elementary School.

At Big Bear Elementary School we provide a standards based educational program for every student while building a sense of positive self-worth essential to academic and social success. Families, children, staff, and community members work together to create a learning environment in which children’s ethical, social, and intellectual development are interconnected and integrated into activities across our rigorous curriculum. You will find that our campus is truly a special place full of vibrant and caring students and staff.

Our teachers use research based instructional strategies to guide classroom practice in order to maximize student learning. We regularly assess student achievement and use those assessments to plan classroom instruction and targeted interventions. Your support and involvement at monitoring homework, maintaining close communication with your child’s teacher, and participating in school events are appreciated and invaluable.

Communication between families, teachers, and students is an important element in maintaining our caring learning community. We are fortunate to have three strong parent organizations to support our school program. Our Bobcat Booster Club, English Learners Advisory Council (ELAC) and School Site Council (SSC) work in collaboration with all staff to provide an enriching and dynamic environment for our students. We invite you to visit our website at which will have up-to-date information about what is happening in our school.  We welcome you to become active in our shared decision making process, and to join us in providing the best possible educational setting for your child by volunteering time in the classroom.

Our motto at BBES is “Live, Learn, Strive, Serve” and at Big Bear Elementary School we focus on developing lifelong learners who understand that learning can take place anywhere for the rest of their lives.

I am looking forward to an exciting, educational, and rewarding year. If you have any questions, please contact me at (909) 866-4638.
